My work asks questions about the meaning and definitions of beauty and nature in a polluted and increasingly artificial world filled with war and destructive cynicism. My goal is to paint and sculpt flowers letting that awareness show – making them “toxicfantastic” and “photosynthetic”.
The melted mickey mouse series are a further reaction to the current state of affairs and consumerist cultural production. The character is a classic symbol of America and American imperialism. When Mickey says “oh boy!” he always sounds so happy and optimistic, but he only looks sweet and innocent.
